Group Therapy for Neurodivergent Folks
-
Will group therapy actually help me? I've already tried individual therapy.Research has shown group therapy to be especially effective in addressing and improving the mental health concerns of neurodivergent folks (Barnhart, 2022) including social anxiety, managing one's attention/focus, and struggles with motivation, self-esteem, or relationship skills—among other benefits. All groups are led by a licensed mental health therapist with extensive training in group therapy, who is a passionate expert in treating neurodivergent folks' mental health. Group therapy can also be a great add-on treatment to compliment your current individual therapy routine to accelerate your progress towards your mental health goals.
-
How much is group therapy? Is it worth the cost? All ND therapy groups cost $165 per month, charged montly. One month of group therapy costs the same as a single individual therapy session, saving you over $6000 per year on mental healthcare costs. Group therapy is a sustainable long term care option. We guarantee your monthly fee will never go up as long as you attend our groups. All group members also receive access to one discounted individual therapy session per month with the group facilitator for additional support and integration. (Optional, best for those who don’t already have an individual therapist whom they meet with regularly)
-
Who will be facilitating the groups?Kayla Freeman, LCSW is a queer, neurodivergent, licensed mental health therapist in Texas who specializes in helping fellow neurodivergent folks improve their mental health and relationships. You can click here to learn more about Kayla.
-
Will there be enough time during the group for me to be heard? Our groups are purposely smaller than the industry standard of 12-15 people. All ND therapy groups have a minimum of 4 and no more than 8 members. All therapists are trained on group dynamics and will ensure that each person's concerns receive a fair amount of attention and group time. Additionally, research show that much of the therapeutic benefit of group therapy comes from not only expressing your own concerns, but hearing others express and work through very similar struggles.
-
How often does the group meet? Each therapy group meets 3 times each month for 65 minutes per session. 1st Mondays & 4th Tuesdays are an OFF week to process, rest and reflect. Optional self-guided assignments will be given for those who want to use the time to continue their personal work.
-
Why is there an "off" week each month?Although neurodivergent folks benefit from routine, they are also more likely to feel “trapped” or stuck in a regular routine. Scheduled breaks for solo reflection, integration and recharge leads to better outcomes towards mental health goals longterm.
-
I'm not sure if this is right for me. I still have some questions. All potential new members receive a free, 20-min consultation with the group therapist to learn more about the group and get answers to their questions. You can use determine if the group is a good fit for your needs before committing to your first month.
